About Mere School

Mere is an attractive, small rural town nestling in the Wiltshire Downs to the south of Salisbury Plain and on the edge of the Blackmore Vale.  It is well served by good road (A303) and main rail line links to London, the West Country and the Dorset Coast.  The town has a good range of shops and services and offers the community excellent religious, cultural and sporting interests.

Mere Town

Mere School is a primary school with children transferring to Gillingham School at the age of 11 (year 7).

The school is a modern building on an attractive site shared with The Parish Council, Childrens Centre and Playgroup.  Our facilities are the envy of most schools!  Mere School benefits from the use of the large playing fields for sport, swimming pool and a larger hall for gymnastics and dance.  Our pupils also enjoy lunches from our school kitchen.  Our school presently consists of 8 well equipped classrooms and a Specialist Learning Centre, a library and 2 halls – which are used for assemblies and other events as well as offices and a staffroom.  The school is well resourced with static computers but also benefits from 30 wireless laptop computers.  Each class has an interactive whiteboard.

The school grounds consist of a hard playing surface and a grassed area with a good variety of play equipment for all ages.  There is also a quiet area, a science area, a garden and a pond, which are used for educational purposes, much of which has been provided by our very active Friends Association from their fund raising activities.

Mere School has a single class entry with one class per year group (with the exception of year 1 where we have split the year group due to the intake size).  Our younger classes enjoy well equipped outdoor play areas.  It is a happy, friendly school where the children and staff enjoy working together.
