About Mere School
Mere is an attractive, small rural town nestling in the Wiltshire Downs to the south of Salisbury Plain and on the edge of the Blackmore Vale. It is well served by good road (A303) and main rail line links to London, the West Country and the Dorset Coast. The town has a good range of shops and services and offers the community excellent religious, cultural and sporting interests.

Mere School is a primary school with the year 6 children transferring to Gillingham School at the age of 11 (year 7).
Mere School operates 8 classes. Classes and staffing issues are constantly addressed. Mere School was judged by OFSRED in February 2010 as a satisfactory school. The current staff are very supportive of each other and work well as a team in facing the many changes and challenges that have arisen in the past and face us in the future.
The school is a modern building on an attractive site shared with The Parish Council, Childrens Centre and Playgroup. It benefits from the use of the large playing fields for sport and a larger hall for gymnastics, dance and theatrical productions. Our pupils also enjoy lunches (made from locally soured, fresh products) from our school kitchen. Our school presently consists of 8 well equipped classrooms, a library and hall – which is used for assemblies and other events as well as offices and a staffroom.
The school grounds consist of a hard playing surface and a grassed area with a good variety of play equipment for all ages. There is also a quiet area, school garden, science and reception play area, and a pond, which is used for educational purposes, much of which has been provided by our very active Friends Association from their fund raising activities.
Cluster Schools
Mere School is part of the Mere and Tisbury Cluster of eight schools. The cluster schools meet regularly for joint events. Our school maintains good liaison with both the Secondary School and our local Pre-Schools, as well as with the wider community, including our local churches.
Mere School is maintained by Wiltshire Education Authority. Any enquiries should be addressed to:- The Chief Education Officer, County Hall, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge, Wilts, BA14 8JB. Tel: 01225 713000 |
